Some key thoughts on teaching and learning:
1. Teaching is a calling not a job. I've known I would be a teacher from the age of five.
2. Students can learn with encouragement, direction, exploration.
3. Learning can and should be fun. It doesn't have to be 'boring' to be effective.
4. Tutoring can make a world of difference for a child. Not only is it the skills but the building of confidence and responsibility in the learning process. Doing the process one on one can give a struggling students the tools they need to succeed.
5. The ultimate goal of the teacher is to help a child reach the level that they no longer need the teacher; they are able to teach themselves because they have the skills.
6. Currently, schools do not stay long on a skill set. Students who struggle get further behind and this is not okay. Families have to review whatever is taught in the class and if there is not understanding seek the help from the classroom teacher or the help of a certified educator/tutor.
7. In order for tutoring to work all parties must be invested: student, tutor and parent. All have to do their part by being prepared, coming on time, giving 100% to the sessions. It is effective if the commitment is there.
8. I believe in and strive to deliver creative, compassionate and skilled instruction at each session.
9. We are partners and are on the same team. This is true whether one on one or in a classroom full of students. When we recognize that we are on the team together we can build and achieve much more success.
